NewTek has introduced the NTC-6000 Qwik-Cal LVDT Signal Conditioner, a device designed to provide modern digital and analog outputs for legacy LVDT, RVDT, and LVRT half-bridge sensors. The unit enables older electromechanical sensors to interface directly with current digital control systems, allowing facilities to upgrade automation platforms without removing or replacing installed position-measurement hardware.
Many existing LVDT installations rely on conditioning electronics that offer only limited analog outputs, making integration with PLCs, SCADA systems, data-acquisition units, and IIoT networks difficult. The NTC-6000 addresses this gap by converting raw sensor signals into contemporary formats, including current-loop outputs, voltage ranges used in industrial controls, and RS-485 digital communication. This approach allows operators to retain functioning sensors while reducing the expense and downtime associated with mechanical removal, rewiring, and requalification.
The device supports multi-drop configurations for up to 16 units and incorporates low-noise electronics, stable excitation, and repeatable response for improved measurement consistency. Both analog and digital outputs can be used at the same time, and internal diagnostics monitor for issues such as sensor faults, wiring problems, and short circuits. Additional protections include cybersecurity lockout and tamper-detection features.
Calibration of older signal conditioners can be labor-intensive and require expert adjustment. The NTC-6000 streamlines this process with front-panel indicators and pushbutton controls for setting zero and full-scale positions, reducing setup time and improving calibration accuracy.
By enabling modern signal outputs while preserving existing sensors, the NTC-6000 provides a cost-effective method for updating systems used in industrial automation, gaging equipment, materials testing, turbine control, and similar applications that rely on LVDT-based measurements.
