Automotive applications for low-cost sensor networking can be addressed with the SAE J2716 SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) protocol. The point-to-point network approach transmits signal values from a sensor to a microcontroller or digital signal processor. At the same time, many automotive safety applications are requiring automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) qualification. To address these requirements as well as providing high precision capability, ZMDI has designed the ZSSC416x Sensor Signal Conditioner Family. In addition to providing a SENT 3.0 output, the IC offers optimized support for ASIL B applications and output resolution of 12 bit for SENT and up to 16 bit for I2C networks. The ZSSC416x is capable of measuring single, dual or differential bridge inputs and internal or external temperature sensors.
